BIOGRAPHY

Katja Westphal is a german visual artist who lives in Norway. Her works have been sold to private collectors worldwide including USA, Canada, Europe and Australia.

She grew up and studied in the north of Germany, focusing on fine arts and wood carving. She moved to Norway to enjoy nature.

Her work slowly evolved from figuration to abstraction. She experiments with color combinations, space, straight lines and layers, often on raw linen.

"The paintings are distilled, intense,

untroubled, elegant- jewel like."

,, Color, shape and space are for me the main actors in a visual abstract spectacle. They can either complement each other, work harmoniously, generate strength or appear boring and even inappropriate.

For me color and space are in the foreground. Together with lines, I try to create a composition that pleases me. I strive for a certain balance between the areas individual colour spaces take up on the canvas. For me it is very pleasant to only take care of the aesthetics without a physical corset regarding proportion and perspective.

The exciting thing is that the experience differs for each viewer, especially within abstract art. It´s not about understanding a painting, it`s about experiencing it."
